Mini-Project: Design an "Interactive Learning Nook/Scene" in TwinSpace
Teacher Training - Day 2: Session 4

1. Your Mission!

Welcome to the TwinSpace Mini-Project Lab! Your mission is to apply the skills and concepts you've learned over the past day and a half to create a small, purposeful TwinSpace experience focused on one specific topic within your subject area.

This is your opportunity to:

  • Put your new TwinSpace knowledge into practice.
  • Explore how immersive environments can enhance teaching and learning.
  • Design a tangible resource you can potentially adapt for your classroom.
  • Collaborate with your peers (if working in groups).

Remember to use this brief and the "Design Prompts" section below to plan your project before you start building. You can find this document and helpful guides on the Training Companion Website.

2. Core Requirements for Your Mini-Project

Your "Interactive Learning Nook/Scene" must include the following core elements:

A. Defined Learning Objective:

Clearly state what students should know or be able to do after interacting with your nook/scene.

Example: "Students will be able to identify the three main states of matter (solid, liquid, gas) and give one example of each."

Example (from slides): "Students will identify 3 parts of a plant cell."

B. Appropriate Scene:

Select a scene from the TwinSpace default library that fits your topic.

(Advanced Option - if comfortable & time permits): You can conceptualize using a Skybox AI generated scene, but focus on defaults for this mini-project if new to scene editing.

C. 2-3 Relevant Objects:

Place at least two to three 3D objects or images that are directly relevant to your learning objective and topic. These can be from the TwinSpace library.

(Conceptual/Advanced Option): Consider if one object could be a custom concept you might later create with a tool like Meshy.ai. For today, you can use a placeholder from the library if needed.

D. One AI-NPC (Non-Player Character):

  • Custom Appearance: Modify the default NPC appearance to suit its role or your theme.
  • Defined Role: Clearly decide what role the NPC will play (e.g., a guide, an expert providing facts, a character asking questions).
  • 2-3 Question/Answer Pairs: Define at least two (ideally three) relevant questions students could ask the NPC, and the corresponding answers it would provide to support the learning objective. (You will be inputting this content directly for the mini-project, not training a complex AI model today).

3. Bonus Challenges (If you finish core requirements early!)

If you complete the core elements and have extra time, feel free to try one of these:

  • Clickable Links: Make one of your objects clickable, linking to a relevant external webpage, video, or document.
  • Simple Blockly Interaction: Try a very basic Blockly script, such as making an object change color or play a sound when clicked. (Refer to guides or ask facilitators if attempting this).

4. Planning Your Nook/Scene (10 minutes - Before Building)

Use the "Design Prompts" below to sketch out your ideas. Thoughtful planning will make your building time much more effective!

B. Scene & Objects:

C. AI-NPC Details:

D. Bonus Challenge Ideas (Optional - if attempting):

5. Let's Build! (85 minutes Lab Time)

Now it's time to bring your planned "Interactive Learning Nook/Scene" to life in TwinSpace!

  • Focus on Core Elements First: Ensure you meet all the requirements in Section 2.
  • Reference Guides: Don't forget the step-by-step guides on the Training Companion Website for TwinSpace features.
  • Ask for Help: Facilitators (Trung & Julius) and technical support are here to assist you. Don't hesitate to ask questions!
  • Add Extras if Time Allows: If you complete the core elements, feel free to explore the bonus challenges.
  • Prepare for Sharing: Towards the end of the lab time, make sure your nook is ready to be briefly presented.

Good luck, and have fun creating!

Assessment Rubric
This rubric outlines the assessment criteria for the "Interactive Learning Nook/Scene" mini-project. It is designed to help educators understand the expectations for creating a purposeful and engaging TwinSpace experience.
1. Clarity of Learning Objective & Subject Relevance (25 points)
Did the team clearly define a learning objective for their nook/scene? Is the nook/scene clearly relevant to a specific subject topic and target audience?
  • 20-25 pts
Excellent: Learning objective is very clear, specific, and highly relevant to the chosen subject/topic and target audience. The nook's purpose is immediately understandable.
  • 15-19 pts
Good: Learning objective is stated and generally relevant. The connection to the subject/topic is mostly clear.
  • 10-14 pts
Fair: Learning objective is somewhat vague or the relevance to the subject/topic is not entirely clear.
  • 0-9 pts
Needs Improvement: Learning objective is unclear/missing, or the nook does not seem relevant to an educational purpose.
2. TwinSpace Environment & Asset Usage (30 points)
Did the team effectively use basic TwinSpace features (scenes, object placement, NPC appearance) to create an appropriate and purposeful environment for their learning objective?
  • 25-30 pts
Excellent: Scene choice is thoughtful and enhances the theme. Objects (2-3+) are relevant, well-placed, and contribute meaningfully. AI-NPC appearance is appropriate for its role. Good use of space.
  • 18-24 pts
Good: Scene is appropriate. Objects are mostly relevant and adequately placed. AI-NPC appearance is suitable. Space is reasonably utilized.
  • 10-17 pts
Fair: Scene choice or object placement seems somewhat random or doesn't fully support the objective. AI-NPC appearance might be generic.
  • 0-9 pts
Needs Improvement: Scene is inappropriate, objects are missing/irrelevant, or the environment is very sparse/disorganized. NPC appearance not considered.
3. AI-NPC Integration & Content (25 points)
Did the team define a clear role for their AI-NPC and provide 2-3 relevant Question/Answer pairs that support the learning objective?
  • 20-25 pts
Excellent: AI-NPC has a clear, purposeful role. The 2-3 Q&A pairs are highly relevant, accurate, and directly support the learning objective. Interaction is easy to imagine.
  • 15-19 pts
Good: AI-NPC has a defined role. Q&A pairs are mostly relevant and support the learning objective.
  • 10-14 pts
Fair: AI-NPC role is somewhat unclear. Q&A pairs are present but may lack depth or clear connection to the objective.
  • 0-9 pts
Needs Improvement: AI-NPC role is missing/undefined, or Q&A pairs are irrelevant, missing, or non-functional for basic interaction.
4. Presentation & Integration Strategy (20 points)
Did the team clearly present their nook/scene (3-5 min), explain its objective, and articulate a basic strategy for how it could be used to engage students in their course?
  • 16-20 pts
Excellent: Presentation was clear, concise, and engaging. Learning objective, target audience, and a practical classroom integration strategy were very well articulated. Stayed within time.
  • 12-15 pts
Good: Presentation was mostly clear. Objective and integration strategy were mentioned and generally understandable.
  • 8-11 pts
Fair: Presentation was somewhat unclear or rushed. Objective or integration strategy was vague or hard to follow.
  • 0-7 pts
Needs Improvement: Presentation was difficult to understand, objective/integration strategy was missing or not clearly articulated.

Total Score: 100 points
